The Welsh Government failed to agree to my call in the Senedd for a debate on the 2013 Holden Report after its long-delayed publication exposed serious and extensive problems with patient safety in a North Wales mental health unit.
Quoting a health expert, I asked "Has the Health Board now satisfied itself that the senior officials responsible for this mess, and for keeping it under wraps for so long, have now all been removed from any responsibility for the care of vulnerable mental health patients?".
As Wales Species Champion for the Curlew, I Chaired and spoke at the launch of 'A Wales Action Plan for the Recovery of Curlew', warning that country-level extinction is threatened by 2033 and stating: "We need to understand the multiple and multi-species benefits of saving Curlew from an ecosystem resilience cultural and natural heritage perspective".
As chairman of the Public Account and Administration Committee, I opened the 'Well-being of Future Generations Act 2015: Scrutiny of implementation' Debate, stating: "Although public bodies have had adequate time and opportunity to take those vital first steps towards embedding sustainable development in all public services, we are simply seeing words translate into tangible action and it is still not clear what difference the Act has made to the way public bodies operate".
In the 'President of the Welsh Tribunals Annual Report' debate, I warned that devolution of justice powers would risk exacerbating the "jagged edge" of how devolved and non-devolved powers intersect, and could cost up to £100 million a year, and referred to the proposal to reform the Welsh Tribunals Unit into a non-Ministerial Department.
Questioning the Social Justice Minister, I asked what action the Welsh Government is taking to support schemes aimed at improving social cohesion across the UK, such as South Asian Heritage Month.
Questioning the Counsel General, I asked him to respond to concerns that neither the Special Educational Needs Tribunal for Wales nor its successor body has any enforcement powers and called for a progress report on planned developments of the Justice System in Wales, including the establishment of a Residential Women's Centre in Wales.
Other engagements included RCN Wales' "Celebration of Nursing" Senedd event, which used "hard facts in number to illustrate the undeniable workforce crisis we are in".
Welsh Local Government Association North Wales Regional Finance Session; my first meeting of the British Islands and Mediterranean Region's 'Commonwealth Parliamentarians with Disabilities' group; and planting a tree in support of NFU Cymru's 'Growing Together' campaign at Carreg Y Llech Farm, Treuddyn.
