Two pubs in Wrexham have been named the best in town in a competition organised by Wrexham MP and Conservative Sarah Atherton.
Sarah Atherton launched a contest to find the best pubs in Wrexham earlier this year, asking people to vote for their favourite establishment.
The winners were The Nags Head on Mount Street and the Long Pull on Chester Street, with Ms Atherton visiting both pubs to present the prizes.
Ms Atherton said: "Pubs, and the hospitality sector more generally, are an important part of the local economy here in Wrexham and are also close to my heart as a former brewer.
"Given the tough year that pubs have had due to the COVID restrictions, I want to celebrate the amazing pubs we have in Wrexham and encourage people across the town to get back into their favourite pub or to try a new one.
“Both pubs were very worthy joint winners and I really would encourage everyone across our community to give them a try – they really are both excellent places to drink, eat and socialise and I had a fantastic time visiting them both.
“I also want to celebrate all the other pubs across Wrexham that were nominated – the full list has been published on my website – and I would encourage people to try them all out. We really do have some excellent establishments across Wrexham, and I hope this competition will spur people onto trying somewhere new.”
Ms Atherton visited The Nags Head, where she met with the manager, Chris Harland, to congratulate him and the team on their success. Those that nominated The Nags Head in the MP’s competition commented on the great landlord and staff, the excellent range of drinks and the welcoming atmosphere for people of all ages.
Chris Harland said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Sarah – and her team – to The Nags Head to celebrate our success as one of the winners of her recent competition. I know that there are lots of excellent pubs across Wrexham, making it a very tough competition, so I am pleased that the hard work of all here at The Nags Head to make it a welcoming place has paid off.”
