Wrexham's Conservative MP Sarah Atherton has recently been celebrating local people's work for their community over the last 15 months.
"I know that the last year has been incredibly difficult for many people throughout Wrexham. However, I also know that the community spirit in this town and the surrounding area has certainly not subsided. As such, I wanted to celebrate those across Wrexham that have done so much for the community.
I was inundated by responses - there were so many amazing nominations, all of whom showed that Wrexham’s community-minded spirit had in no way subsided during the pandemic. This made it very difficult to choose a winner!
Nonetheless, I am so pleased to announce the three winners of the competition are Savannah Lloyd, James Heyward and Carys Hughes.
Savannah worked throughout Covid with the Caia Park Partnership, to support the organisations' youth work and youth engagement; James, who is the Detachment Commander of the Hightown Barracks Cadets, kept the Cadets going throughout Covid, diversifying the range of activities offered in order to continue supporting those that attended; and Carys worked as an older people's worker at the Caia Park Partnership and was described by the Community Agent as the "eyes, ears and feet on the ground" throughout Covid.
Well done to all three and thank you for everything you have done!
Finally, other honourable mentions should go to the Medical Day Unit at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital, the Welsh Blood Service collection team, the Community Outreach team at Xplore! Science Centre and WeMindTheGap, all of which have continued to provide excellent services to the Wrexham community throughout the pandemic, despite all of the associated challenges and risks, which has been appreciated by many and certainly deserves recognition."
