Wrexham Unemployment Continues to Fall
Unemployment in Wrexham has fallen again, and has fallen below 3% for the first time since 2008.
According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics today, the number of people claiming JobSeekers Allowance in Wrexham has fallen by almost 100 in the last month, and now stands at just 2.9%.
Nationally, the figures show there has been a record fall in unemployment, and a record number of people in work.
Wrexham’s Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Andrew Atkinson, has welcomed the news:
“This is more good news for Wrexham and clear evidence that the Government’s long term economic plan is working.
“Every new job created is another family with the security of a regular pay packet.
“However, I am not complacent, and want to see unemployment falling even further.
“Supporting small businesses and boosting our town centre are key to my campaign, and will help to ensure that everyone can benefit from the economic recovery.”
The ONS figures show that there are 1286 people in Wrexham claiming JobSeekers Allowance, with the Job Centre listing 1208 job vacancies within 5 miles of Wrexham.
